Sanberry Cam

Medical device for the objective evaluation of skin and eye conditions.

Co-founder & CTO · 2015 — 2021

What it is

Sanberry Cam is a medical device —tablet-shaped, with dedicated hardware and software built by the team— that analyzes and delivers objective data on skin and eye conditions in real time. It works as a closed ecosystem that records how each condition evolves, supporting diagnosis and treatment follow-up.

The origin

The project grew out of a Nursing final-year thesis. Alberto brought the idea and I joined to make it real; José Vicente Visconti (biomedical engineer) and David Olmos Benítez (optics and optometry) came on board soon after. Toni, head of the Nursing faculty, opened the door to our first awards. Having a team that had known each other for years was one of the keys to keeping the project going.

The prototype

We built the device with custom hardware: a 3D-printed enclosure, a Raspberry Pi, sensors and an integrated screen. From the first working prototype we took to Motivem to the second one we assembled during Yuzz, each iteration brought it closer to something a professional could actually use.

Motivem'16 award

We entered the Motivem awards run by the Universitat de València and ADEIT. We made the top-10 cut, built a working prototype and a business plan, and won the third edition (Motivem'16).

Yuzz 2017 and Indra acceleration

In 2017 we joined the Yuzz program (Banco Santander) at the Universitat de València: six months of startup training during which we built a second prototype and validated the device with a clinical study. We were finalists of Yuzz Universitat de València 2017 and selected for an acceleration by Indra.

Silicon Valley

As part of the program I traveled to San Francisco and Silicon Valley with 52 entrepreneurs from across Spain, visiting Intel, Google, Facebook, Airbnb and Uber, the Founders Space incubator (Steve Hoffman) and Spanish researchers at Stanford. An immersion in innovation culture that shaped how I approach projects.

My role

As co-founder and CTO I was responsible for all technical development: the software, the hardware integration and the project's technology decisions. I am co-inventor of the device, protected by a European patent (P201631587).
